Ricky L. Miller Water Treatment Facility

Capacity

The Town of Boone, Ricky L. Miller Water Treatment Facility was originally constructed in 1982 with a capacity of 3.0 million gallons per day (MGD). As a part of our recent USDA Raw Water Project, the plant was updated and capacity was expanded to treat up to 4.5 million gallons per day (MGD).

The Town of Boone-USDA Raw Water Project which includes, The Greg Young raw water intake facility, Brownwood Road booster pump-station and approximately 12 miles of 24-inch raw water transmission line along with the aforementioned water treatment plant upgrades and capacity expansion, were completed in 2020.  These new, upgraded and expanded facilities will provide the residents of Boone with high quality drinking water for many years to come.   

Water Sources / Intake

The Town of Boone has three raw water intakes; the Greg Young New River Intake, which is the primary intake for the Town, the Southfork Intake and the intake located on Winkler Creek. Note: The intake located on Winkler Creek is used only when needed or in case of an emergency.

Boone also owns a reservoir on Winkler Creek that has been estimated to contain 60 million gallons.

Water Storage

The Town of Boone has seven water storage tanks totaling 6.11 million gallons of finished water in the distribution system. The Town of Boone has two pressure zones with the highest being in excess of 200 pounds per square inch (PSI).
