The Planning & Inspections Department assists the Town Council and appointed Boards and Commissions in managing growth and promoting public health, safety, and general welfare through the formulation of plans, policy recommendations, as well as the administration of the Town’s Unified Development Ordinance, North Carolina State Building Codes and various other codes and statutes. Our goal is to provide the very best service to our customers in the community while developing strategies to guide growth in a manner that preserves and enhances both the natural and built environments while creating a community of lasting value.

Request for Qualifications - Comprehensive Plan Update
The Town is seeking the services of a professional land planning consultant/firm with experience, resources, and skill in the development of comprehensive planning, community visioning, and similar processes. The selected consultant will work with the Town’s Planning and Inspections Department to jointly facilitate an update to the Town’s current Comprehensive Plan. Submittals must be received by September 5, 2022, before 1:00 pm EST by the Finance Supervisor. No submittal will be accepted after that date and time. Qualifications should be submitted in accordance with the specifications listed in the document link below.
The Planning and Inspections Department is located in the lower level of the Downtown Post Office. Our main entrance may be accessed by using the entrance located to the right of the building as you face the Post Office.
Limited free parking for customers of the Post Office and Planning & Inspections is available on Linney Street adjacent to the Post Office.
